Genshin Impact is my latest obsession. I started playing at launch but put it down when I heard it was a poorly paced gacha game with huge amounts of grinding.
Silly me.
It’s been out for a couple of years at this point and it must have had all the kinks ironed out because I’ve had nothing but an excellent time. I picked it up as a curiosity at the beginning of the year and have played it every day since at the time of this post.

The Breath of the Wild inspiration is obvious. It’s an art style I absolutely adore. Climbing to the top of a mountain to be greeted with a breathtaking view keeps giving me life. My PS5 is full of incredible screenshots like the one below!
The open world is packed with tons of treasure, monsters, and puzzles. There have been multiple Sundays where I’ve sat down at lunch time to play Genshin and ended up exploring the world until late into the night. It’s a bit of a problem actually. Not even Elden Ring held my attention this long.
The reason I find Genshin so engaging is the elemental reaction combat. It’s just so dynamic and fun. Setting some hilichurls on fire and then overloading them with lightning never gets old!
Pictured above is Yelan, a hydro archer, which I pulled from a recent banner. She shot straight to the top of my list of characters to keep as a regular on my team. Her elemental skill (lingering lifeline) allows her to move faster than a sprint and tags enemies along the way. Once the skill ends it detonates all the tagged enemies. Not only is this extremely fun, but it makes traveral in the overworld a breeze.
Seriously look at that view. I guess it’s my blog so here’s a couple more pics.
I’m a sucker for pastel landscapes of blue and green! I’m only halfway through the story quests because I keep getting side tracked by the next weapon upgrade or that treasure chest off in the distance…
Oh my god I almost forgot, the actual systems behind this game are incredible. It’s cross platform so I can play it on my iPhone! Wild. I will literally never miss a login bonus because I’m away from the PlayStation.
That’s really all I have to share right now. Needless to say, I’m having a killer time with this one and don’t see any end in sight. Will Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom be able to pull me away from Genshin Impact? Time will tell!
